Great points, Bill. More fodder for the Lavi detractors as well.

Totally agree on Bob....there is also no indication that had the Flyers kept him, he would have even come close to doing what he did in Columbus here.

Also, as per people's love affair with Mason, after what 5 games, I would like to see how the tables are turned when he has a few bad games, and people jump all over him, like every other netminder that Philly has ever had.

Nice write up on Bobs.
Quickest lateral movement, but too many top shelf goals. Glad he corrected things, I always liked him.

One question.

Who is Sky Low Low?

"Rather, my problem with the situation lies first in Laviolette's handling of the playoff goalie rotation in 2011 and then Snider's impatience for an immediate long-term solution in net."

So you place blame on the coach and the owner and yet the GM shares no blame in this? Holmgren is truly teflon-boy here.

When you factor in the time Bob spent in the KHL (24 games) during the lockout and with his 38 games played with Columbus thats 62 games. And he was just as good in the KHL where he was 18-3-2 and also finished with 0.932 sv pct. So I do believe he will have the stamina to handle an entire season next year.

Also we need to mention the goalie coaches once Bob went to Columbus he was given a offseason list of problems by CBJ goalie coach Ian Clark on flaws in his game. I think we need to look for a replacement for Jeff Reese.

Oh Btw while were mentioning former Flyer goalie lets talk about Joacim Eriksson who lead his team to Swedish Elite League championship and who will likely be coming over pretty soon.

Good point about the KHL games, albeit a totally different league, I still believe there is credence there.

I must say though, I do need to see him play an 82 game NHL regular season before I put him up there with the other elite goalies in the league. Seeing is believing in this case.

maybe the real mistake here was resigning leighton after the cup run, rather than looking for another legitimate option. i was in favor of keeping him at the time. the deal was very cap friendly, and leighton had played great for them most of the season, except when it mattered most in the final. had they gone in another direction, perhaps that would have given bob time to develop a little in the ahl or even a couple of seasons as a backup, and he's not likely to have been put into the position he was by lavi in the 2011 playoffs. i was in favor of keeping him and letting him develop. didn't work out that way. i believe he will become an elite goalie in this league, and it still may take another couple of years before he gets to that point.

however, they've netted voracek AND mason (indirectly) out of moving him. if mason rediscovers his rookie form, then it's a win for the flyers. let's hope he plays the way he did in his brief stint at the end of the year. with that mason, the flyers should be fine next year.

and i don't think bob will win the vezina for the simple fact the jackets didn't make the playoffs. extremely rare for a player to win a trophy in that scenario, right or wrong.

As much as I enjoy playoff hockey, I'm itching for the off-season to begin in earnest. Its endlessly fascinating and often frustrating to bear witness to the way the Flyers organization does business, and I imagine this off-season will be no different.

The Flyers have so many question marks, I can't wait to see how they address them. Chalk it up to morbid curiosity I guess.

Yup, Angelo Savoldi was a longtime wrestler and, later, a promoter. His son "Jumpin' Joe" was active for many years, too.

Huge +1

Bob had major flaws in his game here that were detectable from the get go (drops too early, tucks elbows) which were exploited regularly by the opposition from the mid-point of his rookie season onward.

There was NEVER any indication that those flaws were being worked on as there was no improvement shown.

This has been the case for quite a while for multiple goalies. One of the more glaring examples being Biron ("if you're breaking in and think you'll be cut-off, swing wide, go around the net and you'll find an empty net waiting for you on the other side" - and his lack of urgency on lateral movement).

Trading Bob was the right thing to do and Bill is correct in that they should have done it when they signed Bryz.

I am happy that Bob has appeared to address his weaknesses in Columbus. I have no confidence that would have happened here.
